ABOUT UKRAINE
Ukraine is the largest country on the European continent with a population 48 million. It isbordered by the Russian Federation to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland, Slovakia and Hungury in the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast respectively. There are the Crimean Mountains in the Crimean peninsula and the Carpathians in the west, but they are not very high. The climate of the country is moderate. Winter is rather mild, with no severe frosts but with regular snowfalls everywhere except the south. The rivers and lakes freeze in winter. Official state language is Ukrainian, but Russian language is widely spoken.
The capital and the lagest city of Ukraine is Kiev located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. Population of Kiev over 3 million. Other large cities are Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Donetsk, Lviv and Lugansk.
